What made you want to be a Lewis Scholar?
I chose to apply for the Lewis House Scholar program because I am eager to expand my knowledge in theology and of God’s word. I have recently felt called into a possible career in full-time ministry along with nursing, so I am hopeful that I will be able to gain insight on this possibility. To me, the Lewis House Scholar Program means taking initiative in my relationship with Jesus and furthering my education in the history and basis of Christianity.

I heard glowing things about it from many of my friends. Having grown up outside of the church, I feel that being a Lewis Scholar will allow me to understand the more foundational and historical beliefs of Christianity.

My love of learning and reading has been a constant in my life. Finding a place to do that that also helps me grow spiritually made me want to be a Lewis House Scholar.

I took an apologetics class offered by the Lewis House and that was the first time I ever had a real space to talk about theological questions and ideas. When the class was over for the semester, I realized how much I craved intellectual discussions about my faith. I knew quite a few people who were Lewis scholars and couldn’t recommend it enough. I decided to apply and am so excited to be a Lewis House Scholar!

What made you want to be a Lewis Scholar?
I wanted to be a scholar because I find myself having a lot of questions and a desire to go deeper when reading my Bible. I think it’s somewhat of a blessing and curse at the same time. I think God gave me this curiosity to deepen our relationship and use it for His Kingdom. However, a lot of questions can stir up doubt in me. I think the Lewis Scholars program was such a good opportunity to enter into a community who has similar curiosity but can also hold me accountable and encourage me when I face doubt. I think this program is going to allow me to deepen my relationship with God in a new way and I am so excited for this year!

In my classes and extracurriculars, I get numerous opportunities to challenge by scientific knowledge and critical thinking but my philosophical and theological understanding was an area of my life that I wanted to see more growth in. The Lewis House Scholars program has given me the ability to utilize the critical thinking skills provided to me by schooling towards concepts and issues that all Christians may encounter in their lives. I have learned how to have thoughtful conversations in these areas with grace and love, aiming to reflect the image of Christ simultaneously.
