The Emptiness of the Modern Sexual Ethic
Christine Emba | Tuesday, January 20th at 7pm

There’s so much confusion around the topic of sexuality these days. In January, Lewis House will welcome to the stage Christine Emba to address the modern sexual ethic and its many problems. Emba is a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute where she researches gender and sexuality, feminism, masculinity, and more. She is also a writer and editor at The New York Times, and her recent work, culminating in her book Rethinking Sex: A Provocation, explores the detrimental results of the modern sexual ethic on women and men.

Imagination and the Kingdom of God
Malcolm Guite | Tuesday, February 3rd at 7pm

Dr. Malcolm Guite is a British poet, priest, musician, and academic who is interested in the interface between theology and literature. Guite earned his doctorate at the University of Durham, and was ordained a priest in the Church of England in the 90s. One of the most unique voices in contemporary Christianity, his public work often focuses on many of the great heroes of a place like Lewis House: the Tolkiens and Lewises who showed the interdependency of intellect and imagination in the Christian life.

God and the Secular Academy: A Historian’s Journey to Faith
Molly Worthen | Wednesday, March 4th at 7pm

In this secular age, we see stats and stories of those walking away from the Christian faith. Dr. Molly Worthen’s story is unique. Worthen is a professor of history at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Growing up as a non-Christian, she spent most of her adult life and professional career as an agnostic. But in the course of studying American history and religion, she became a Christian. In this lecture, Dr. Worthen will share the unique story of her conversion to Christianity.

A Theology of Modesty: Living Christianly in an Age of Self Obsession
Brian Marshall | Wednesday, April 1st at 7pm

Brian Marshall is the founder and director of Lewis House and the lead pastor of Christian Student Fellowship at the University of Kentucky. Every year we have a local voice give a lecture, and this year we decided to invite Brian to the lecture series to share his reflections on the virtue of modesty. Having years of experience working in college ministry, Marshall has recently been thinking about how much more expansive the concept of “modesty” should be than it is, and how as a virtue it extends to a wide range of areas Christians should take seriously.
